Foregoing Rest

One day in winter Juche 52 (1963) the Political Committee of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea decided that Comrade Kim Il Sung should rest at least for a few days.

Unable to reject the decision any longer, Kim Il Sung set out for North Hwanghae Province. Amid the idyllic scenery of the winter coming into and going out of sight, he saw children playing at the side of the road. He told the driver to stop the car. He called the children to him, and asked them if they were not cold without wearing overcoats.

Feeling ill at ease, he could not go to sleep that night. The following day he convened a consultative meeting of relevant officials of the province. At the meeting he said that he could not sleep the previous night because his heart was heavy after seeing children improperly clad in the cold winter.

Straightly after the meeting, he came back to Pyongyang and convened a meeting of the Political Committee of the Party Central Committee, at which he suggested ways for solving the problem of clothes for children in the rural areas before the lunar New Year’s Day.

Then he assumed the responsibility for the production of children’s clothes.

Under his energetic guidance padded clothes were produced in a little more than a month and supplied to all the rural children.
